Timba is a more recent and innovative way of making music, developed to give a Cuban imprint to “salsa music”, in which the presence of Rumba is very strong, sometimes mixed with other Cuban genres including elements of Afro.
The term Timba today denotes all the danceable music of Cuban origin and, even if it is not correct, the salsa dance wisely mixed with gestures of Rumba and Afro.
Characteristics of Timba are to decorate the dance of Salsa through an elegant body movement and to be danced both in a closed social position, open or even “detached” from one’s partner, always and however maintaining the connection characteristic of the social dance.
