The moment when dance becomes your passion, it’s natural to want to share it with your friends and the whole world. That’s why I created this blog, which contains my reflections based on years and years of social dancing. Everything is from the perspective of a European and how we experience Salsa here. In this blog, I exclusively write about the Cuban style.
My name is Alessandro, and I am passionate about social dancing in Cuban-style Salsa. I took many years of dance classes and then I’ve studied Cuban folk and popular dances for 5 year in Academy. This is where I got in touch and fell in love with Son and Cuban Rumba. I have taught in Italy, Germany, Denmark, and now as a volunteer at the Social Hub in Lund, Sweden. Here, I offer a simplified beginner’s course in Cuban Salsa and Dominican Bachata with a fun and light-hearted approach, inspired by the values of inclusion, sharing, and socialization.
The name of this blog, the word “tornillo”, comes from the name of an acrobatic figure popular in Son. Its execution involves one dancer staying stationary while the other rotates him/her in a circular motion, “screwing” them in. The word “tornillo” actually means “screw” in Spanish.
