Salsa is a partner dance rich in movement, expression and improvisation. The fundamental element is the dialogue, the connection between the two partners, commonly referred to as the leader and the follower.
The term “Salsa” is actually used to describe some of the most popular Cuban derived musical genres, which blend and synthesize with great elasticity and flexibility. The evolutionary path of Salsa begins with certain Cuban dances, including Afro-Cuban dances and Cuban Rumba [[Cuban Rumba is a family of music and dance genres of Cuban origin, unrelated to European rumba]], but the fundamental root is Son.
There are several styles of Salsa dance, and the most popular one is called “Casino”, which we know and refer to simply as Cuban Salsa or Salsa Cuban style. Casino can be danced either in pairs or in groups, in this case it is performed in a formation called Rueda de Casino.
Musically, the defining characteristic of Salsa is the presence of the Clave, which is a specific rhythm played by a percussion, made up of two sticks, which is also called the Clave.
