Rueda de Casino, or more simply Rueda, is a way of dancing Casino (Cuban salsa) in a group. Couples form a circle and one of the dancers, known as “cantor,” plays the role of leader and is responsible for calling out the figures that all the couples must perform in synchrony. The tradition of naming figures in Salsa originated precisely from the need to execute them in Rueda.
Although most classical figures have remained unchanged and widely known, each Rueda has its own uniqueness and you will never find two Ruede the same. By nature, Rueda is generally less focused on technicalities, and a distinctive feature is the constant changing of partners.
Those who dance in Rueda never stop having fun, which is why the advent of Rueda has played an important role in spreading the spirit of salsa around the world.
